WALK OF GRACE - My Spiritual Service of Worship
(Taken from the Walk of Grace Study by Sandra J. Mikler Davis)

August - Week 2:

I would like to share with you some things regarding meditation that I have learned over the past number of years.
(Above all, remember that God wants to reveal Himself to you.
Ask the Holy Spirit to teach you. If you have questions, ask Him!)
  1. Consider the names of God and their meanings.
If you've done my study about the names of God, To Bear His Name, review one name each day.
Or you can write down all the names of God that you know and spend time each day thinking about one of them.
(Next year's devotionals will focus on God's names.)

  2. Focus on the Word of God.
Read Psalm 1:1-2. Make reading the Word your delight.
Did you know the Bible contains over 30,000 promises?
Contemplate on one or more of these each day.

  3. Think about God's works.
Read Psalm 77:12-15. The psalmist meditated on all God's works.
Look at the trees, your hands, the birds, the sky ... all these things are His works.
Ponder God's immense vastness. This should ignite praise in each of us.

  4. Remember past victories in your life.
Memories of God's faithfulness brings joy and delight, because of His love and mercy.
Read Lamentations 3:21-23. This is a great meditation exercise in times of distress or anxiety.
APPLICATION:
  • Which one of the above thoughts stirs my heart for meditation today?
  • What will I do about it today?

May we each be willing to share with the Lord the 24 hours He has given us in quiet meditation and continual praise and prayer.
Meditation is all about God! It has nothing to do with me.
Yes, God blesses me through it, but even that is by His mercy and grace.
He is the one we love and adore. He is worthy to be meditated upon and honored.
