Weekly Devotionals 2006

Week 48

“We know that no one who is born of God sins; but He who was born of God keeps him and the evil one does not touch him. We know that we are of God, and the whole world lies in the power of the evil one. And we know that the Son of God has come, and has given us understanding, in order that we might know Him who is true, and we are in Him who is true, in His Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and eternal life. Little children, guard yourselves from idols.”    1 John 5: 18-21

After the hard saying last week we now come to the final thoughts from John‘s heart.
1) Those who are Born of God do not sin. The Spiritual nature inside us is born again and pure before God. It’s the flesh we have to deal with. (1 John 3: 6,7,9; 2 Corinthians 5:21)
2) We know we are His because of the Assurance spoken of earlier. He keeps us. There are two camps. Those who belong to God and those who belong to the evil one. Saved ones believe in the Name of Jesus Christ and are overcomers.
3) We know that Messiah Jesus has come in the flesh!
4) We know Him who is true - Jesus our Savior and Lord.

The proofs of salvation in 1 John are these: 1) Walking in the Light (1:7) 2) Keeping the commandments (2:3) 3) Love your brother (2:10) 4) Confession of sin (1:9) 5) Confession of faith (4:2).

The contrast of the evil one is:  1) darkness (1:6)  2) no keeping of commandments (2:4)  3) no love for brothers (2:9)  4) no confession of sin (1:10) 5) no confession of faith!

Lastly and to close John writes: “This is the true God and eternal life.” How fitting to close this Epistle!

Jesus is the One True God made flesh. (John 1: 1,2,14) The Holy Spirit is our Guide to this amazing Truth. May we by faith walk in it and not be led astray by any idol of our own thinking or the worlds making!

QUESTIONS TO PONDER:
How will you walk you faith in the New Year?
Will your heart be sensitive to the Lord’s leading in love, conviction of sin, faith, worship and service?
Blessings to each of you,
Sandra Davis for all of us at the Ministry Center
