Women In Discipleship
Weekly Devotionals for 2007 – The Psalms

July - Week 28
Weekly Reading:  Psalm 30
(Go to www.BibleGateway.com for complete text)

"For His anger is but for a moment, His favor is for a lifetime; Weeping may last for the night, but a shout of joy comes in the morning."    Psalm 30:5

This song of David was sung during an event of dedication. It isn't known which event, but the prayer and praise ring with worshipful testimony. (Some would suggest that this Psalm was written for the dedication of the temple). David may have had a serious illness, because mention of his healing is clear in verse 2. It was significant for him to have penned such an experience as seen in verse 3. (I hope you are taking the time to read the Psalms, for they are God's word to us.)

His praises are evident, and in verse 5 (above) we see him recognize the eternal favor of God on his life! He worships with joy.

Another phrase worthy of noting is: "Now as for me, I said in my prosperity, I will never be moved." (verse 6). David was arrogant at one time and boastful in his wealth and power. He did learn that this approach was the same as his adversaries; thus his error. He repented (key) of such talk and brought heart felt supplication to his LORD! "O LORD, be my Helper." Words to ponder and pray about in our lives of abundance and influence!

May we continue to approach our Lord liked David, in humility, repentance, praise and with a thankful heart!
(Refer to Isaiah 54:7,8; John 16: 20-22; and 2 Corinthians 4:17)

May our thoughts run to God and with gratitude thank Him for His favor toward us today!
