Weekly Devotionals 2006

Week 44

"Whoever believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God; and whoever loves the Father loves the child born of Him. By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and observe His commandments. For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments; and His commandments are not burdensome. For whatever is born of God overcomes the world; and this is the victory that has overcome the world -- our faith."   1 John 5:1-4

As John concludes his heart felt Epistle to his tender flock we will see the theme for this writing repeated one more time.

Significant truth is found in verse 1. Jesus is in the Incarnate Christ. This point is the backbone of our Christian faith. Deity and fulfilled prophecy (Micah 5:12; Isaiah 7:14;53:11;53:7)and true salvation hinge on this belief!

Love of Father = Love of Son. Verse 2 gives us proof of our faith - Love for God yields obedience to His laws! This practice gives us guidelines to act upon for daily living. "The practice of our lives" is the test. We will fail but the Spirit will convict. We need to act upon this and confess…Holy living is at stake.

Isn't it wonderful to know the truth? The commandments keep us steady and on the narrow road with confidence and joyful hope. They are not burdensome when we choose to allow them to be headlights and the steering wheel in our lives (v.3). We should be able to experience God's love in this because He is our Divine Protector and heart Husband! (Read Matthew 1:28-30; James 3:17)

We again see in verse 4 the power and victory of our faith. Faith and belief are achieved through the truth about who Jesus truly is! Overcomers are folks who love the true Jesus, the One true God! We can overcome false prophets, teachers, the world system of satan, the flesh and the devil when we know this amazing truth - faith in Christ!

Questions to Ponder:

How are you guarding your faith (belief) in Jesus today?

Is your life a demonstration of Overcomer belief?

We have the Divine Protector in us! Is He your Commander today?

May we live victorious lives today and always!

Blessings to each of you,

Sandra Davis for the team
